Abstract: Objective To investigate the influence of sequential treatment notification and telephone follow-up on compliance of patients undergoing intravesical instillation chemotherapy after bladder tumor surgery. Methods Seventy-eight patients with bladder tumors were allocated equally into an observation group and a control group using a random number table.Patients in the observation group received sequential treatment notification and a follow-up telephone interview, while patients in the control group received generic oral health education. Compliance with intravesical instillation chemotherapy, use of the prescribed drinking water, and occurrence of bladder irritation were measured in both groups. Results The observation group showed greater compliance than the control group in using the prescribed drinking water in the first stage, and greater compliance with intravesical instillation chemotherapy in the second and third stages(all P<0.05).Furthermore,the rate of bladder irritation was lower in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusions Sequential treatment notification combined with telephone follow-up can improve patient compliance with postoperative intravesical instillation chemotherapy and use of prescribed drinking water, which may reduce the occurrence of bladder irritation.
