Abstract: Objective To investigate the significance of serum CA_(125) value taken after 3 cycle postoperative chemotherapy for evaluating the prognosis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma. Methods Serum CA_(125) after 3 cycle chemotherapy from 94 patients with epithelial ovarian carcinoma treated by operation and 6~8 cycle chemotherapy were detected, during the period from Jan.1, 1998 to Dec.30,2002 in our department. The patients were divided into three groups according to their serum CA_(125) concentration such as normal value(35U/ml),two fold of normal value(70U/ml) and three fold of value(105U/ml),respectively. Accumulated survival rate and average survival time were estimated using Kaplan-Meier estimates and compared with the logrank test where indicated. Results Accumulated survival rate of patients whose 3 cycle postoperative chemotherapy serum CA_(125) were≤35U/ml had no significant difference(P = 0.0693) from that of CA_(125)>35U/ml.There was no significant difference(P = 0.1074) between the group of CA_(125)≤70U/ml and>70U/ml as well.Accumulated survival rate of patients whose 3 cycle postoperative chemotherapy serum CA_(125)≤105 U/ml was significantly higher than those whose CA_(125)>105U/ml(P = 0.0171). Conclusions 105U/ml of CA_(125) after 3 cycle postoperative chemotherapy could be applied to evaluate prognosis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma.
