Lipid metabolism disorders as risk factors for endometrial adenocarcinoma

Abstract: Objective To explore possible relationships between lipid metabolism disorders and the occurrence of endometrial adenocarcinoma(EMA). Methods A total of 68 patients with EMA and 61 control women were compared in terms of lipid metabolism indicators, fasting plasma glucose(FPG),fasting serum insulin(FINS) and homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance(HOMA-IR).Pooled odds ratios were estimated using non-conditional logistic regression to identify factors associated with risk of EMA and with clinicopathological features of the disease. Results The lipid indexes,FINS and HOMA-IR differed significantly between patients with EMA and controls(P<0.05).However,triglyceride levels,FINS,and HOMA-IR were not significantly associated with clinicopathological features of EMA(P>0.05). Conclusions EMA occurrence was associated with elevated body mass index, triglycerides,FINS,waist circumference,HOMA-IR.Elevated FINS,triglycerides and HOMA-IR may be useful as predictors of endometrial carcinoma.
