Expression of AKR1B10 protein in papillary thyroid carcinoma tissue and its clinical significance

Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of aldo-keto reductase family 1B10(AKR1B10) in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and its clinical significance. Methods Pathological specimens of 237 patients with thyroid nodules diagnosed by ultrasound from the First People's Hospital of Chenzhou from January 2013 to July 2015 were collected. Western blot was used to detect the expression of AKR1B10 protein in normal thyroid tissues and PTC tissues,immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of AKR1B10 protein in different thyroid pathological tissues. Results Western blot results showed that the  expression  of AKR1B10 protein in PTC tissues was higher than normal thyroid tissues(0.82±0.10 vs 0.22±0.07,t=2.702,P=0.011). Immunohistochemistry showed that AKR1B10 was highly expressed in PTC tissues and had the highest postive expression rate(79.5%) in different tissues. AKR1B10 expression level was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis(P=0.007). Conclusion AKR1B10 is highly expressed in PTC tissues and positively correlated with lymph node metastasis.
