Abstract: Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of modified Xuanbaichengqi decoction combined with platinum-based chemotherapy on lung phlegm-heat accumulation syndrome in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer（NSCLC）. Methods Forty patients with advanced NSCLC were divided randomly into a treatment group and control group.The treatment group received modified Xuanbaichengqi decoction combined with platinum-based chemotherapy，while the control group received only platinum-based chemotherapy.Clinical effects were observed over two treatment courses.Changes in tumor size，clinical symptoms，Karnofsky physical performance grade and side effects were evaluated. Results The treatment group showed significantly better tumor stabilization， improvement of clinical symptoms，quality of life and Karnofsky physical performance than did the control group（all P<0.05）.In addition，the treatment group showed significantly fewer side effects（P<0.05）. Conclusions Modified Xuanbaichengqi decoction combined with platinum-based chemotherapy is effective at controlling tumor growth，improving clinical symptoms and quality of life，and reducing chemotherapy side effects in the treatment of lung phlegm-heat accumulation syndrome in patients with advanced NSCLC.
